How My Career In Sales Turned Me Into A Better Version Of Myself

I’ve lived 4 decades of my life as a ‘salesman’, so to speak. And 2 decades before that learning how to sell my maverick self to a lesser maverick world from an infant to an adolescent, to a ‘grown-up’!

Hah! And let me tell you. Every moment of my life has been an amazing collection of sheer grit and stability. That’s because, if you’re a salesman, you will always be at the brunt of denials and rejections personally and professionally. But that isn’t a forever thingee! Because it comes along with benefits that no other form of existence can possibly ever craft!!

So, let’s do a quick looksie at how my career in sales turned me into a better version of myself:

  1. TEMPERAMENT OF STEEL: You BET! Every time I was rejected, I would come back as a force to reckon with. After all, you can’t be a BLOCKBUSTER if there aren’t enough blocks to burst!!
  2. RESPONSIBILITY: This comes pretty much automatically. If there are no Salesman, there will be no sales and hence, no entrepreneurial venture. Simple and straight. And that’s a very responsible feeling every salesman, worth his weight in salt, understands. The progress of the organisation rested on our shoulders, constantly.
  3. PATIENCE & CONSISTENCY: A Hallmark of every successful Salesman. Both facets grow simultaneously as one journeys through varied market forces and client mentalities.
  4. CHARACTER & INTEGRITY: Every good Salesmen knows that he never sells a product. He sells a solution. But first he needs to sell himself to the client before anything else. Clients easily buy into good moral character and transparent integrity when they accost one. The rest happens without much ado.
  5. TOP PHYSICAL FORM: Oh Yes, this goes without saying. No Salesman ever got the job done comfortably sitting on his chair at office. It’s a tough job with loads of travelling within and outside the city of residence. And if you’re the kind who shies away from a gym, welcome to an arena of unstoppable physical madness!
  6. UNPARALLELED SERVICE: This is the best one! You get to serve people or clients with genuine solutions to their problems. And if a good job’s done – well then, you’re a HERO for life!!
  7. And finally, it’s the BEST CAREER OPTION: Majority of entrepreneurs would prefer to hand over their ventures to a CEO who understands the nuances of taking a ‘Product to Market’. That’s a science all by itself and who better than a seasoned Salesman to get the job done! And I know this for sure because, that’s the pinnacle I ‘teed-off’ from after having meandered around joyfully for so long in the sales industry!!
